Solution for Delay ITR Processing

After successfully filing an Income-tax return, people wait for the I-T Department to process the same. However, in some cases, due to any reason, ITR does not get processed and the concerned authorities may also ask you to explain or rectify your mistakes. If the same happens with your ITR then this article may help you.

E-Verify Your Return

Have you e-verified your Return? If not, then after uploading the ITR, you need to verify it online to complete the ITR filing procedure. You need to e-verify your return within 120 days after uploading the ITR otherwise it may be declared invalid.

E-Verification mode is easier, quicker, safer, and paperless and you will also receive instant acknowledgment of the same. However, you can also e-verify your ITR using Aadhaar OTP, Bank Account EVC, Netbanking, Demat Account EVC, and DSC.

Tax Credit Mismatch

There could be one more reason due to which your ITR hasn’t processed; ‘Tax Credit Mismatch’. If there is a mismatch in your Tax Credit and visible in Form 26AS. To check and correct the mismatch, you have to log in to your e-filing account and according to the reason you may:

  1. File a revised return or,
  2. Urge your deductor to file a revised TDS return

Your ITR Contains Errors

One common reason that your ITR hasn’t processed is that your ITR contains some errors. A discrepancy in your ITR may occur due to failure to:
  1. Include specific income(s) like interest income
  2. Include income from the previous employer within the same FY
  3. Fill or filled Schedule 80G Incorrectly in ITR
  4. Mention the excluded income in ‘Schedule EI’ of ITR
  5. Claim Deduction under section 80C correctly
If any error from the above occurs, then you have to file and e-verify a corrected return promptly.

Outstanding Tax Demand Unresolved

If you have received a demand notice from the Income Tax Department and failed to respond to it, it may also lead to non-processing of your ITR.

If this is the case, then you need to respond to the demand notice as soon as possible. To do that, you have to first login into the e-filing portal, then either disagree with the demand notice or you can agree on the demand. If you disagree with the demand notice then you will have to provide details for such a disagreement, And if you agreed,  then you have to pay the asked amount.
